What I think

Believe it or not this game is the game of the Lego Movie so you’d be forgiven for thinking that “Everything is Awesome” as both the movie and the game proclaim. I assure you, it is not.

Lets start with that song. It’s used in the game, a lot. You’ll be sick of it very quickly. The game is very good at making you take breaks regularly. Every time you can’t stand the song any more, you have to stop and run away to get away from it.

Next up, the gameplay. In most Lego games you play as a variety of characters, usually different ones throughout. In this, you get the main character, Emmet, plus a few of his friends depending if the level requires them. That’d be ok if the game didn’t force you to use them over and over with a very small range of puzzles. If you can complete the first level, you know all the puzzles it’ll throw at you.

Usually in a Lego game, anything made of Lego can be destroyed. Easy to see what you need to do. In this everything is Lego. I’ll admit I’ve wanted this for a long time. However, for reasons I cannot understand, some of the textures are so lo-resolution it’s laughable. So for part of the game they render the studs on top of the blocks, and on others it’s a terrible image of studs where they aren’t 3D. That’d be acceptable if it was the 3DS or even PS3/360 versions. But I played the Playstation 4 version. A console capable of rendering thousands of individual balls in a physics environment is capable of rendering a few studs on a Lego game.
Below, i’ve added a screenshot that shows the low-resolution textures next right next to proper studded bricks making the game look bad.

The storyline loosely follows the film but it changes it a bit too much for my liking. I understand they need to make levels suitable for several players, but they just change their own plot. Why not make the film fit more? They had control over both.

Overall, avoid this game. It’s terrible.
