Deadpool Game

Considering I’ve had the deadpool game in my possession for just over a week I thought it was worth getting a review down on paper.

What Is It

Deadpool is an action beat ’em up video game based on the Marvel Comics character of the same name. The game was developed by High Moon Studios and published by Activision, and was released for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Former Deadpool comic writer Daniel Way created the game’s plot, and Nolan North voiced the character. The game received mixed to positive reviews, with plot elements commonly praised and gameplay elements found lacking.

Deadpool, along with most other games published by Activision that had used the Marvel license, was de-listed and removed from all digital storefronts on January 1, 2014.

Exciting Stuff

If like me you’re a fan of random violence, insane characters and funny one liners, this is the game for you.
If you’re a fan of virtual characters in a skin-tight red and black suit, this is the game for you.

I think that covers everybody, go buy it.

Ok so seriously now, The Deadpool game is a masterpiece on non-game. It’s a game in the traditional sense. It has a protagonist, an antagonist, a plot and plenty of explosions. But it does all this while laughing at every game cliché it can, at itself and at the Marvel Comic Universe. Not only this, it does all this while eating a cream filled bagel.

I’m going to explain the premise of the plot. No real spoilers here. Deadpool is trying to make a Deadpool game. The game you (the player) plays is the game he’s trying to build. Confused?  Yeah me too. So in a way there’s the plot of the game, then there’s the plot of the game being made to sell games. IT’S INSANE!!!

Let’s move on before my head explodes and you stop reading.
The characters in the game are well chosen. Besides Deadpool there’s a small range of heroes and villains from the MCU (Marvel Comic Universe) including several of the X-Men. Which ties in very nicely with the comics. The game tries it’s best to replicate some of the funniest moments in the comics in this way and in my opinion, succeeds very nicely.

The humour in the game is typical Deadpool humour. You could almost think this wasn’t made by a third party. The game replicates the funny moments from the comics and breathes a bit of life into them in an excellent way. Who’d have thought pancakes could be so much fun. Or having deadpool try and eat pizza only to realise he cannot eat it through his mask. Simple things that make all the difference. On the first level there’s a very nice scene where he attempts to work out how much C4 he’d need to blow open a door. Add a few voices in his head and you have an argument about explosives that ends with them using it all. Quite an explosive effect i might add.

The controls are easy enough to play, A hybrid between Battlefield and Batman Arkham City. Nice and light to make it plenty of fun to cut down enemies where they stand. The stealth system needs a bit of work, but who cares about stealth when I have a sword, 2 pistols and a beartrap to play with?

Overall, i LOVE this game to bits and am sad the only copies left are found online.
